12.9-inch ipad

New reports suggest that the early months of 2015 could bring something BIG from one of our favourite tech giants.

[tweet_dis]Apple is rumoured to already be getting supply chains ready for a 12.9-inch tablet to be released early next year.[/tweet_dis]This is pretty big news considering that before now we’d only been expecting a 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch model for release before Christmas.

A report in Bloomberg suggests that Apple has been working with suppliers for over a year to get parts ready for a larger tablet.

What’s going on with the iPad?

It’s fair to ask the question, why go bigger?! Isn’t Apple already the market leader when it comes to tablet devices? Well, that certainly used to be the case. But in reality iPad sales have been on a not-so-slow downwards slope for most of this year, with critics saying Apple just isn’t releasing enough to shake up the competition.

So maybe Apple’s looking to surprise people with a whole new look and size for 2015 – that wouldn’t be the worst plan we’ve ever heard after all.

Other large tablets on the market

As far as competition goes, Apple’s has certainly gone up over the past couple of years. If you don’t want an iPad there are still plenty of other options out there, and that’s where Apple’s problems stem from.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S 10.5

Samsung’s 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab S has a Super AMOLED display while Sony’s 10.1-inch shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass display provides tough competition¬†– especially due to their power. Seeing as they both feature smaller price tags than Apple’s iPads when they’re first released, it’s hardly a surprise that many people are going Android.

What can we expect from the new iPad models?

That’s not to say that Apple’s iPad models have nothing to offer though. We still believe that its tablet devices are amongst the best on the market.

So, assuming Apple is going to further improve these models for the release of the 7.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad models in September, we just know we’re going to be seeing some incredible looking, powerful tech. A 12.9-inch variant will still do Apple no harm though, so we’re looking forward to seeing that in 2015.
