1. Envirofone – is there a catch, is Envirofone a Scam?

Envirofone is one of the most trusted recyclers on our site – they were the number three rated recycler in 2014 and have a 8/10  rating on CompareMyMobile, based on good pricing and reviews left by consumers. They have paid out money to over three million people – you can see the reviews here.

As long as your phone is in the condition you have said it is, and you avoid cheque payment, you should have your money within a couple of days – cheques are the slowest method and can take up to five days to get back to you in the post.

2. Can I sell other gadgets, not just phones, on Envirofone?

As suggested by the name, Envirofone specialise in giving cash for phones – not so much other gadgets. You will find products such as Apple’s iPad listed on the site showing some expansion but if you’re looking to sell old gadgets like games consoles then the best thing to do is use our search bar to see which recycler will give you the best price.

3. Will I get the full amount for my phone on Envirofone?

The quote you see when you are offered a price through our site is frozen for 14 days – so as long as you send the phone off and it is in the condition you have stated it to be, then you will receive the full amount for your phone.

If, on the other hand, Envirofone finds your device is broken when you have claimed it to be working or there is more damage than was expected, you will be emailed a slightly reduced re-quote based on the condition of your phone. If you decide that you don’t want to accept this, Envirofone will send your phone back to you for free.

4. Does my phone count as broken on Envirofone?

As with the majority of our recyclers, a phone is damaged if it has:

  • A cracked screen
  • Lots of scratches or dents
  • Broken buttons
  • Broken microphones
  • No power
  • Broken or missing battery
  • Broken operating system
  • Water damage

You are likely to still get some money for your phone, but it won’t be as much as you could get for a working phone.

5. What shall I do if my phone has a cracked screen?

As we said in the previous answer, if the screen is cracked then it is broken according to Envirofone, so they will offer you less money than you would get for a phone in full working order.

If your cracked phone screen is the only faulty aspect of your phone, you could consider getting it fixed. However, you must get it fixed by the manufacturer – as other shops could use fake parts to fix your phone which don’t fit properly, and this could be recognised by Envirofone. This could put you out of pocket more initially but if it means you get more money for your phone it could be a wise move in the long room.

6. Can I sell a blocked phone?

Envirofone don’t accept blocked phones, as phones are often blocked if they have been lost or stolen. Every phone has an IMEI number which will be on the online crime protection database CheckMEND if the phone has been reported as lost or stolen and Envirofone use this database to check every device. If it comes up lost or stolen then Envirofone will keep hold of the phone and you won’t get any money.

On the other hand, if the phone is yours and it is blocked for another reason, you will need to contact your network provider for them to unblock it before you send it to Envirofone.

7. What do Envirofone actually do with the phones?

On Envirofone’s website they state that they refurbish the majority of their handsets to a high standard so that they can go on for sale in developing markets around the world. This can offer a lifeline to communities that don’t have access to a landline, providing absolutely vital communication to those who would not otherwise have it.

Other mobiles are also sold on in the UK, giving those who didn’t have the opportunity to own the latest handset the chance to have a go a bit later on.

8. Will I get more for my phone on Envirofone than eBay?

Envirofone was the number three recycler on CompareMyMobile.com in 2014, and one of the reasons for this was the great prices they were offering for your old tech. Many often find that you could potentially get more money for old gadgets by using sites like eBay but there are things you should think about first. The price you are offered on Envirofone is guaranteed and the price is held for 14 days for you to make sure it’s right for you. You are not guaranteed a sale on eBay as it all depends on how much a buyer wants to pay, and even then you can’t guarantee the buyer will pay. You should also consider the fees eBay will take from you after your sale, as that will knock some pennies off of your profits.

9. How long will it take Envirofone to pay me?

On Envirofone’s website they state that they process your payment within 24 hours of receiving and checking your mobile – and after that it really depends which payment option you choose. Bank transfer is your quickest option, as this ensures the money is in your account straight away whereas cheque and Argos Cards will be posted to you, which can take up to five days.

10. When you send a phone to Envirofone, do they wipe all the data from it?

Yes, Envirofone have a series of tests to make sure all personal information from your phones has been completely wiped, have a handy tool for this. However, we always recommend that you also remove the data from the phones yourself by restoring factory settings. You can do this by going to your Settings Menu and touching the Factory Re-Set option.

By bank transfer it is no longer instant. My payment was ‘approved’ on Monday but it will be 5 days before the funds are in my account
